What is Reiki?
Reiki is the Japanese word meaning Universal Life Force Energy and it refers to the holistic practice of light touch energy channeling. Reiki is the vital force which permeates all living things and the vibrational energy balances, harmonizes and restores our energy systems. Reiki originates from ancient Buddhist and Christian practice and was rediscovered by the Japanese Dr. Usui in 1962 who further developed the healing system which is practiced today.
How Does Reiki Work?
We are alive because life force is flowing through us. Life force flows within the physical body though pathways called chakras, nadis and meridians. It also flows around us in a field of energy called the aura. Life force nourishes the organs and cells of the body, supporting them in their vital functions. When this flow of life force is disrupted, it causes diminished function in one or more of the organs and tissues of the physical body. Reiki heals by going to deeper levels of a persons being where many illnesses have their origin.
The life force is responsive to thoughts and feelings. It becomes disrupted when we accept, either consciously or unconsciously, negative thoughts or feelings about ourselves. These negative thoughts and feelings attach themselves to the energy field and cause a disruption in the flow of life force. This diminishes the vital function of the organs and cells of the physical body.
Reiki heals by flowing through the affected parts of the energy field and charging them with positive energy. It raises the vibratory level of the energy field in and around the physical body where the negative thoughts and feelings are attached. This causes the negative energy to break apart and fall away. In so doing, Reiki clears, straightens and heals the energy pathways, thus allowing the life force to flow in a healthy and natural way.
Reiki can never cause harm
Because Reiki is guided by Devine consciousness, it can never do harm. It always knows what a person needs and will adjust itself to create the effect that is appropriate for them. One never needs to worry about whether to receive Reiki or not. It is always helpful.
During the treatment you lie fully clothed on a table. The practitioner's hands are placed gently and passively in different positions over or on your body, usually beginning at the head. The receiver may experience sensations of heat/warmth, cold, tingling or indeed no sensation may be felt, however, mostly one experiences deep relaxation.
After the session
When the session is finished allow time to sit and regain full presence, drinking water or tea is encouraged as this helps to flush away the detoxifying effects from the Reiki. People can experience increased relaxation, feeling more balanced and less stressed or emotional, reduction in pain levels and increased ease of movement as well as increased awareness and vitality. It is important to remember that although you may feel immediate improvement, deep healing takes time and commitment.
